President-elect Biden to reintroduce COVID travel control on non-U.S. travelers
President Joe Biden laid down his response plan to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and how to relaunch the economy during the presidential election campaign, Once in the White House, he signed 10 executive orders as part of a huge “wartime” Covid action plan. This included increasing testing, the production of essential equipment, and vaccinations. President Biden said in the news conference he gave about his administration response to the COVID-19 pandemic “Let me be very clear, things will continue to get worse before they will get better”.
The President of the United States of America Joe Biden on Monday 25th will officially reintroduce COVID-19 travel restrictions on non-U.S. citizens from many countries including Brazil, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe after Donald Trump lifted those requirements before leaving the white house, according to two White House officials.
The new variant of the virus is spreading far fast, more dangerous, and deadly more than anyone expected. The first cases discovered in South Africa, another case found in the United Kingdom just before Christmas, a few days later first cases of the new variant found in Europe, which resulted in border closure and control in the European Union. The United States is no different, especially the number of infections is not decreasing. Therefore South Africa would be added to the list of restricted countries because of concerns about the COVID-19 variant that has spread beyond the South Africa borders as well as the United Kingdom variant that has been found in many European countries.
President Joe Biden reversed former President Donald Jr. Trump’s order, who called for the relaxation of travel restrictions in his final days in office. This decision is no surprise since the new virus variant is more dangerous and infectious.
Restricting travel to or from North Africa highlights the concerns of Biden’s administration about the mutations of COVID-19, and their will to put an end to this pandemic or at least slow down the spread of this new variant.
So far the South Africa variant has been discovered in the U.K and in European Union in general, which has introduced Travel restrictions to and from South Africa. In the United States, this variant has not been found, but they have discovered another variant of the COVID-19 originating from the United Kingdom, this has been found in many states in the United States, as well many parts of the world.
One of President Joe Biden Executive order that he signed last week was about international air travelers arriving in the United States of America, in this order, he instructs the federal agencies to require all passengers to a 10 days quarantine upon U.S. arrival, as well as providing negative COVID-19 test results before boarding.
